The Hawai'i Injured Workers Alliance advocates a responsible, ethical and supportive environment for Hawai'i's most valuable resource, our workers. HIWA strives to make our workplaces safer through education, legislation and improved monitoring and enforcement of workplace safety.

International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH)

The International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) is an international non-governmental professional society whose aims are to foster the scientific progress, knowledge and development of occupational health and safety in all its aspects. It was founded in 1906 in Milan as the Permanent Commission on Occupational Health.

Today, ICOH is the world's leading international scientific society in the field of occupational health with a membership of 2,000 professionals from 93 countries. The ICOH is recognised by the United Nations as a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and has close working relationships with ILO, WHO, UNEP and ISSA. Its official languages are English and French.

Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA)

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration aims to ensure worker safety and health in the United States by working with employers and employees to create better working environments. Since its inception in 1971, OSHA has helped to cut workplace fatalities by more than 60 percent and occupational injury and illness rates by 40 percent. At the same time, U.S. employment has doubled from 58 million workers at 3.5 million worksites to more than 115 million workers at 7.2 million sites.

MedlinePlus brings together authoritative information from NLM, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other government agencies and health-related organizations. Preformulated MEDLINE searches are included in MedlinePlus and give easy access to medical journal articles. MedlinePlus also has extensive information about drugs, an illustrated medical encyclopedia, interactive patient tutorials, and latest health news.

Hawaii Department of Labor

The Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DLIR) is responsible for ensuring and increasing the economic security, well-being, and productivity of Hawaii’s workers. The department promotes access to employment and strives to alleviate the economic hardship of workers during periods of disability or temporary unemployment; and protect the employment rights of workers and assure a safe and healthy workplace.

Consumer Lawyers of Hawai'i [CLH] is a professional association established as a non-profit corporation in the State of Hawai'i. CLH exists to provide services to its members, education to the public and information to governmental and judicial decision-makers.

Federal Department of Labor

The Department of Labor fosters and promotes the welfare of the job seekers, wage earners, and retirees of the United States by improving their working conditions, advancing their opportunities for profitable employment, protecting their retirement and health care benefits, helping employers find workers, strengthening free collective bargaining, and tracking changes in employment, prices, and other national economic measurements. In carrying out this mission, the Department administers a variety of Federal labor laws including those that guarantee workers’ rights to safe and healthful working conditions; a minimum hourly wage and overtime pay; freedom from employment discrimination; unemployment insurance; and other income support.

National Council on Compensation Insurance, Inc., based in Boca Raton, FL, manages the nation�s largest database of workers compensation insurance information. NCCI analyzes industry trends, prepares workers compensation insurance rate recommendations, determines the cost of proposed legislation, and provides a variety of services and tools to maintain a healthy workers compensation system.

This site is one of the largest biomedical libraries in the world providing an index of services, databases, publications and research programs.

Workplace Violence

This site, authored by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, provides a wealth of information on a variety of subjects. Of particular interest is a free, online guidebook entitled "Dealing with Workplace Violence" available on the web, via PDF, or by requesting a hard copy.
